Biographical Dictionary of Canada
The biographical dictionary of Canada is a dictionary of biographical entries on the individuals who contributed to the Histoire of Canada. Initiated in 1959, it is the fruit of a collaboration between the Université of Toronto and the Université Laval. Its first edition was published in 1966.
The project was undertaken at the request of the business man James Nicholson, who wished to see off a Canadian version of the Dictionary National Biography of the the United Kingdom. Since 1989, its managing director is George Ramsay Cook, whereas Réal Bélanger is the executive vice president.
In May 2005, its online version included/understood more than 8.000 biographies.
