Biblis
Biblis is a small town of the " Land " of Hesse in Germany localized on the " Bergstraße ".
Biblis is located at 21 km at the north of Mannheim, at 50 km in the south of Frankfurt and near Worms. The current population is of 9250 inhabitants approximately.
A little history
With the top the Middle Ages, to fix the border of the the Rhine after the victory of the Roman over the Alamans, of many buildings appeared among which the " Burg Stein" close to Nordheim.Biblis and Wattenheim are mentioned for the first time on the registers in year 836. Thereafter, the king " Ludwig der Deutsche" (" Louis Allemand") gave Biblis, Wattenheim and Zullestein in reward with " Wernher" , faithful vassal, in year 846. Nordheim, which belonged to the bishops of Worms, is mentioned on an act of a court with Neuhausen close to Worms in 1129.
The Guerre Thirty Year old brought its miseries to this area which was the principal ground of action of the foreign armies. They left devastations and poverty there. To these disasters of the war came to be added in 1635 the plague which has affected most of the population.
With the arrival of Napoleon in 1803 with Darmstadt, the old episcopal possessions fell, which related to Biblis, Nordheim and Wattenheim.
One notices a particular plow on the armorial bearings, in the official seal and on the flags of the commune. This tools old represent the long fight of the inhabitants of Biblis with the marsh when they tried to make the ground livable with this tools primitive. In these armorial bearings the water lily symbolizes the marsh while the plow symbolizes the work of the ground.
The nuclear plant
The Nuclear plant of Biblis is established at the edge of the Rhine. This power station comprises two nuclear phases of the type PWR, Biblis has and Biblis B, which produce 2500 MWe on the whole. The first section was open in 1974, the second in 1976.In 1976, when they were connected to the network, the two sections of Biblis represented the largest nuclear plant of the world.
