Berthold Carl Seemann is a German Botaniste , born the February 28th 1825 with Hanover and dead the October 19th 1871 with Jivali.
It obtains its doctorate with Göttingen and studies the Botanique with Kew in Great Britain of 1844 with 1846.
It takes part like Naturaliste, on board H.M.S. Herald with a voyage on the west coast of America in the Arctic seas of 1847 with 1851. This forwarding is ordered by the admiral Sir Henry Mangroves-Denham (1800-1887). Several other scientists take part in it: Edward Forbes (1815-1854), Sir Henry Kellett (1807-1875), Thomas Edmonston (1825-1846) and John Goodridge.
It explores the Fiji in 1860. A little later, it visits the Nicaragua in 1864 and Venezuela of 1866 with 1867.
He is member various learned societies of which the Royal Geological Society and the Société linnéenne of London. Seemann is in particular the author of The Botany off the Voyage (1852-1857) and Narrative off the Voyage (1853). It directs the reviews Bonplandia of 1853 to 1862 and Journal off Botany, British and Foreign of 1863 with 1871.
Eduard August von Regel (1815-1892) will dedicate to him the kind Seemannia .
