Bernhard Meyer is a Médecin, a Botaniste and a German ornithologist , born the August 24th 1767 with Hanau and dead the 1836 close to Offenbach.

He works initially as doctor then founds a pharmaceutical company. Having made fortune, it is devoted consequently to the Natural history. Meyer is the joint author with Gottfried Gaertner (1754-1825) and Johannes Scherbius (1769-1813) of Oekonomisch-technische Flora der Wetterau (1799), which gives the scientific name of many plants. He is also the joint author with Johann Wolf (1765-1824) of Naturgeschichte der Vogel Deutschlands (1805) and of Taschenbuch der Deutschen Vogelkunde (1810).

He is adviser near prince d' Isenburg. He applies the principles linnéens strictly. At that time of great activity for German ornithology, he exerts a certain influence in particular because he adheres to the Nature philosophy caused by Lorenz Oken (1779-1851).
