Bernes-on-Oise is a common French, located in the department of the Val-d'Oise and the area Île-de-France. Its inhabitants are called the Berneses (be).

Geography

The commune is located in the valley of the Oise, to 30 km in the north of Paris.

Bernes-on-Oise is bordering on: Beaumont-on-Oise, Persan and Heather-on-Oise (in the department of the Val-d'Oise) like Mesnil-in-Thelle and Morangles (in the department close to the Oise).

History

The name comes from the Gallic bagina , forest of Hêtre S, or bago , beech, accompanied by the italo-Celtic suffix - erna and by the river éponyme.

The territory of the commune is occupied since the Antiquité, as the discovery of a Gallo-Roman cemetery attests it. The place is quoted for the first time in 797 in a deed of gift of the count Theubald to the Abbaye of Saint-Denis, then in a charter of 820 under the name of “Bagerna”. Seigniory of Beaumont at the 12th century, the village saw primarily Viticulture. It shelters an important commandery about the Templiers at the 13th century, until the dissolution of the order by Philippe Beautiful the. The knights of Saint-Jean-of-Jerusalem succeeded to them then.

The village was destroyed to 95% because of proximity of a military airfield, between 1943 and 1945 and offers the aspect of the rebuilt villages of post-war period.

The common one belongs to the jurisdiction of authority, of great authority as well as trade of Pontoise.

Monuments and places of visit

the church Saint-Denis was built at the origin at the 13th century. Destroyed by the bombardments of 1944, it was replaced in 1951 by a building of modern architecture to the purified style with single nave, built in the fields of the architect Paul Koch. It has a high square stone bell-tower. Inside, it shelters a stone Virgin of the 14th century and a stone statue of Roch saint of the 16th century.

The commune accommodates the aerodrome of Persan-Beaumont partly. It accommodates a grouping of initiation to sporting and upward parachuting as well as a track ULM.
