Bergen COp Zoom is a commune and a city of the Netherlands of the province of the Brabant-Septentrional . It is a town of 65 000 inhabitants who accommodates many industries (among which head offices of Philip Morris and General Electric Plastic in Europe) from its privileged situation (located between Rotterdam at 65 km and Antwerp with 40 km) and its opening on the the North Sea.
Bergen COp Zoom is also the starting point of the famous GR. 5, linking this city with Nice.
The greatest attraction of the year is the Carnaval which is spread out over all February. The inhabitants dress themselves in white cloths, of red scarves and of rather eccentric hats during the weekend and of many local Fanfare S play in the streets. The culminating point of this demonstration takes place the last weekend during which an enormous procession of tanks built with the hand representing takes place of the giants.
History
Founded in 1287, Bergen COp Zoom (C. - with-D. Mons-on Zoom ) was besieged by the Spaniards in 1588 and 1622. Strengthened by Cohorn, the city was taken by the French the July 2nd 1747, by the French troops of the Maréchal Maurice of Saxony under the orders of the marshal of Lowendhal and was delivered to plundering, after a famous seat. Besieged vainly by the British in 1814, it was returned by France with peace.
