Benoit Prosper Sibuet

Benoit Prosper Sibuet , (born the June 9th 1773 with Belley, Ain - died the August 29th 1813 with Loewenberg, Silesia), is a Brigadier general.

Its life

Benoit Prosper, after studies in Joséphistes de Belley to become priest, joined the rows of the Revolution while leaving like volunteer with the 2nd battalion Ain on December 1st, 1791. Affected to the Armed with the Rhine, it passes Sergent on June 1st, 1792 on the field of Bataille of Limbourg, then occupies the place of Sous-lieutenant on August 1st, 1792 at the time of the Siège of Mainz. Then on September 1st, 1793, it passes to the Armée with the Eastern Pyrenees where it is affected with the staff as assistant lieutenant

With Peyrestole, on September 17th, 1793, its horse is killed under him. As of the 20 nivôse year II, Sibuet, always staff officer, takes seat within the staff of the general Despinoy with the avant-garde of the 5 {{E}} Division. Wounded at the time of the attack of Puycerda July 26th, 1795, it receives a saber of honor. It is then built-in as lieutenant with the 16 {{E}} Régiment of Cavalry.

Following its wounds, it is detached at the school of cavalry of Versailles as instructor during 18 months. This station, the republican general Masséna notices it and takes it as aide-de-camp to the Armée with Helvétie on December 17th, 1799. Sibuet is wounded with the left heel at the time of the blockade of Genoa. It is made Capitaine by Masséna on June 1st, 1800, is confirmed in this rank by decree of the Consuls on October 26th, 1800, and receives two guns of honor then.

Named chevalier of the Legion of Honor on January 17th, 1805, it becomes Major on February 22nd, 1805 and always with Masséna, fights with Caldiero and Campo Pietro in October 1805. Masséna makes him gift into 1805 of a splendid shotgun ornamented.

It takes part in the catch of Naples in March 1806, then integrates the Large army within which it makes the Campagne of Poland of 1807. It is named major, on November 10th, 1807, with the 119 {{E}} Régiment of Infantry of Line and must leave Masséna on October 28th, 1808 to join its regiment with Bayonne. March 7th, 1809, it is promoted Commander.

July 17th, 1809, he marries Genevieve Angélique Morand, the girl of the general Joseph Morand and becomes thus brother-in-law of the general Montbrun.

April 13rd, 1810, it joined the 96 {{E}} Régiment of Line and is named knight of the Empire on October 30th, 1810. It is promoted Colonel 147 {{E}} Régiment of Line on January 16th, 1813. With the court of the Bataille of Bautzen it is wounded with the thigh, on the edge of the Katzbach. Named Brigadier general on August 23rd, 1813 and Officer of the Legion of Honor on the field of Battle of Dresden, he becomes chief of the second brigade of the 17 {{E}} Division of the 5 {{E}} Corps of the Large army directed by Macdonald.

He dies drowned in the Bober into raw on August 23rd, 1813 while trying to save the eagle of the 147e Régiment of Infantry of Line, after having made throw the eagles of his regiments to water, having broken his sword and precipitates with horse in the torrent of Bober where he expires under the enemy balls.

Distinctions

  • It belongs to the 660 personalities to have its name engraved under the Triumphal arch of the Star. It appears on the 30e column (the Arc indicates SIBUET ). (May 1867)
  • the town of Paris pays homage in to him 1868 by giving the name of Sibuet to a street of the 12th district.
