Bemba (language)

The bemba , also known under the names of chibemba and ichibemba , is a Langue bantoue spoken mainly in Zambia but also in the adjoining countries (Botswana, Democratic republic of Congo, Malawi).

The bemba and its dialects are spoken and included/understood by a significant percentage of the Zambian population. One estimates at more than 3 million the inhabitants of Zambia whose bemba is the native tongue, without counting those using the bemba like second language. The bemba is used like Lingua franca in the towns of Zambia and, according to Ethnologue, this language has in Zambia a " social status higher than the other languages, except for the anglais".

It is a language of the type SVO (Subject-Verb-Object).
