Beautiful Cordière
The origin of this nickname given to Louise Labé is rather indirect.
His/her father, Pierre Charly, apprentice rope-maker, had married (about 1493) in first wedding the widow of a prosperous rope-maker, Jacques Humbert says Labé. To ensure its presence in this profession, it took again the name of the first husband of his wife.
With died of its wife, Pierre Charly, said Pierre Labé, remaria, and it is of this marriage that will be born Louise Labé. She will take again at the same time the pseudonym and the nickname of her father: Louise Labé, Cordière . It is thus of the husband of the first woman of his father that its name comes!
