Bay of Phillip Port
the Bay of Port Phillip (also shortened Port Phillip ) is immense a Australian bay , in the south of Melbourne. It is prolonged in its Western part by the Baie of Corio.
Description
Port Phillip is bordered of many small bays, like Beaumaris Bay, and of beaches, as to St Kilda or Brighton. The bay opens in the south on the Détroit of Bottom by a mouth (called The RIP ) between the Lonsdale point in the west and the Nepean point in the east. The narrowness of this opening and the tides and waves particularly violent make of it a delicate passage for the boats which often require, especially largest, of an assistance of guidance by local experts (the Port Phillip Pilot Service ).
The Eastern bank is characterized by sandy beaches whereas the side Eastern is more heterogeneous.
A line of ferry ( Searoad ) connects every hour the two sides of the mouth, between Queenscliff with the west and Sorrento in the east. Another line of ferry in north connects St Kilda to Williamson, on both sides of the Hobsons bay, in the agglomeration of Melbourne.
Sports and leisures
In addition to the beaches, the bay of Phillip Port is the nautical place of activity and of pleasure (marinas with Geelong, St Kilda and Brighton) and its banks are appreciated for the Cyclisme, the Marche, the Jogging and the Race on foot.
