German dynasty of origin saxonne, the Bautzmann (or Baǔtzmann von Rabenau) gave to Saxony several scientists, politicians and artists of reputation, whose destinies crossed the Germanic personalities most famous of their time: Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (to which they are related), Jean-Sebastien Bach, Richard Wagner, the brothers Grimm, Karl Marx, etc
Modern medicine owes them many major scientific projections: Christopher Bautzmann (1590-1687) in Pharmacology, Johannes Christopher Bautzmann (1645-1738) in epidemiology, Hermann Bautzmann (1877-1965) in Genetic and Embryology, etc
In the artistic field, one will retain in particular Johannes-Christlieb Bautzmann (1722-1786), Kappelmeister in Leipzig at the sides of Jean-Sebastien Bach.
In political matters, Alexander Magnus Bautzmann (1811-1880) undoubtedly constitutes the most outstanding figure. This lawyer becomes at 32 years burgmeister of Dahlen, in Saxony. Enthusiastic Saxon patriot, cofounder of the liberal party of Saxony, it becomes in 1849 one of the principal instigators of the Revolution of the Printemps of the people in Saxony. To the head of a private army, it goes on the royal capital (Dresden) and takes part, at the sides of Richard Wagner and Mikhaïl Aleksandrovitch Bakounine at the revolutionary days which are completed by the escape of the king of Saxony. A few days later, following the entry in Dresden of the Prussian army, it is arrested, imprisoned in the fortress of Königstein and is condemned to died by the royal capacity. At the end of one year of imprisonment, it is pardoned by the king of Saxony.
It will become one of the emblematic figures of patriotism incipient from the future German nation.
The origins " mythologiques" of this family (which took as a starting point the brothers Grimm in their tale entitled DER Klabautermann) and their membership of the one of the oldest German nobilities were at the origin of an attempt at instrumentalisation by the authorities Nazis in the years 1930. But the resistance of the last German members of this family to the policy hitlérienne (cf attack of July 1944) will involve their detention, then their execution by Gestapo in 1944.
