Battle of Wagram

The battles of Wagram , was held around the island of Lobau on the the Danube the 5 and July 6th 1809 and had as a result the victory of the French Large army , under the command of Napoleon I {{er}}, over the Austrian army directed by the Archiduc Charles.

Napoleon made prepare his attack, in particular the artillery bridges and positions, because he wants this battle before the arrival of the troops of the Jean archduke who comes to Forced march since the Italy.

July 5th

Whereas the sun dries the rain of the Napoleon day before orders a general attack in sweeping. Bernadotte advances the Saxon ones on the plate of high Wagram of a few meters. When they arrive at the peak, the second wave, consisted the Italians of Macdonald, takes these white uniforms for those of the Austrian, and draw on them. The Saxon ones, taken between two fires, move back towards the forces of Macdonald which believe in a load and the disorder settles. Oudinot, remained at a peak, must move back to be aligned on the new line. The positions are stabilized for the night.

July 6th

In the small hour of the July 6th cannonade with 1  100 pieces of artillery on 15 km breaks out. The Austrians attack and progress along the the Danube, threatening the pivot of the island Lobau. But the most formidable battery ordered by Drouot of more than one hundred parts of countryside strikes down them. With 18:00 the archduke Charles is obliged to order the retirement. The French, exhausted and dispersed cavalry, cannot continue.

Assessment

The battle of Wagram decided to end of the war of the Fifth coalition. The general Lasalle loses the life there.
