The battles of Verdun is one of the first confrontations of the Guerres of the French revolution. The August 20th 1792, the Prussian forces beat the French troops, which leads a few days later to the rendering of the place of Verdun (see Siège of Verdun). The road of Paris is then open.

One month later, takes place the Bataille of Valmy.
