The battles of Soor took place the September 30th 1745 between the Prussian forces and austro-saxonnes. The Prussians were carried out by Frederic II of Prussia, the Austrians and the Saxon ones were carried out by Charles-Alexandre of Lorraine.

Context

Three months after the Battle of Hohenfriedberg, the prince Charles-Alexandre of Lorraine attacks Frederic II by surprise whereas this one camps in Staudenz.

To have lost many detachments during walk in Bohemia, the manpower of the Prussians is reduced to 22.500 men. Charles discovers that Frederic neglected to occupy Graner-Koppe, a hill in the north of Burkersdorf, which dominates the landscape in the east and the south. He makes at once occupy the position with his cavalry, of the musketeers, pomegranates, and 16 guns large gauge. He lays out then the remainder of his army on line, towards the south.

Battle

The Prussians detect the presence of the Austrians. The effect of surprised on which the Austrians counted is wasted. Without their leaving time to go back some, the Prussians pass immediately to the attack, in spite of the position of the Austrians.

The combat engages by an Austrian cannonade on the columns of cavalry whereas they pass under Graner-Koppe. Having survived fire, the riders are spread in the north of the hill.

The riders of the Buddenbrock general give the enemy attack of the infantry but move back under the fire of the mousquets. Graner-Koppe was subjected then to the attacks of the infantry. The pomegranates of elite go to the mouth of the guns but are decimated by the Austrian firepower. The second continuous line to advance, and manages to seize the position, reducing the guns to silence.

During this time, the Austrian line is committed in its own battle with Burkersdorf, where under the fire of another battery, the Prussian troops insert the Austrian center.

When the Austrians end up giving up the battle field, Frederic will have overcome this day there, the most annoying situation and most dangerous of his career.
