The battles of Ishibashiyama (石橋山の戦い, Ishibashiyama No tatakai ), the September 14th 1180, is the first battle of the Guerre of Gempei to which share Minamoto No Yoritomo took.

Unfolding

In spite of in June death of Minamoto No Yorimasa and the prince Mochihito with the first battle of Uji, the call to the revolt of this last does not remain not forgotten of the clan Minamoto, and Yoritomo, which is the legitimate heir to the Minamoto clan in spite of the intrigues of his/her uncle Yukiie, and on his/her cousin Yoshinaka, decides to take the weapons, helped by his/her father-in-law Tokimasa Hōjō.

Following the Rebellion of Heiji, Yoritomo had been exiled with Izu by Taira. When Kiyomori learns that Yoritomo gathered an army and moves towards the master key of Hakone, it sends Kagechika Ōba to stop it.

With the favor of an attack surprised during the night, this one gains the victory Minamoto, and Yoritomo then escapes for Chiba, where it gathers a new army, before going to cut off itself in Kamakura in October.
