A bathysphere , of the old Greek βάθος ( bathos , deep) and σφαίρα ( will sphaira , sphere), is a sinkable spherical without autonomy, descended under water using a cable.
First was conceived by Otis Barton in 1928, and financed by William Beebe, they reached together in 1930 a 245 meters depth. Two years later, they reached 923 meters, a record which will remain unequalled during 15 years.
