Bastan

The Bastan is a Affluent right of the Gave de Gavarnie, with Luz-Saint-Saver in Lavedan in the Hautes-Pyrénées.

Etymology

Bastan is a Hydronyme Pyrénéen corresponding to the Basque Baztan.

Geography

Bastan traverses the valley of Barèges, on the western slope of the Col of Tourmalet, where it collects in particular the brook of Oncet, supplied with the Lac of Oncet on the southern slope of the Pic of the South of Bigorre

It joins with Luz-Saint-Saver the Gave de Gavarnie.

The basin of Bastan is delimited in particular by the Soum Arrouy (in the North-West), the Pic of the South of Bigorre, the Pic of the Four Terms (in the east), the Pic of Néouvielle and the Pic of Bergons (in south-west).
