Bassecourt

Bassecourt is a common Suisse of the Canton of the Jura.

Geography

The commune of Bassecourt is in the Vallée of Delémont, along the course of the Sorne, to 8 km as the crow flies of Delémont. Its territory extends from the valley, to 477 m of altitude, the mountain, 1029 m of altitude (Frénois).

The commune also includes/understands the village of Berlincourt, at the exit of a typical Jurassic cluse, dug by the Sinter slag, between the Coast at Pucin and the Coast of Lime.

In north, the communal territory recovers the small valley of the Red Water, which runs out of the solid mass of Rangiers and is thrown in the Sinter slag.

History

Archaeological excavations revealed a colonization with the Bronze Age around Bassecourt. In Berlincourt, Roman currencies dating from IVe century were discovered, as well as a field of tombs dating from the Life and VIIe centuries.

The first mention of the village, under the name of Baressicort, goes up with 1160, when the counts de Ferrette offered the site to the parish of Moutier-Grandval.

Bassecourt belonged to Evêché of Basle starting from 1271. Of 1793 with 1815, Bassecourt belonged to the France, in the department of the Mount-Terrible , then in that of the Haut-Rhin. Following a decision of the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Bassecourt, like all the Jurassic possessions of évêché of Basle, was allotted to the canton of Bern. Since January 1st 1979, the common one belongs to the Canton of the Jura.

A consecutive fire with a storm because of large damage the July 21st 1871.

Economy

Bassecourt is an important industrial locality. In the past, one manufactured there bicycles (marks Stella and Jurassia). The industry of the box of watch is very present there with, for example, the company Georges Ruedin SA, which belongs to the Swatch Group. The locality also shelters the manufacturer of Willemin-Macodel machines.
