Basilica Saint-Saver of Rennes

The Basilique Saint-Saver is located in full downtown area of Rennes.

Started in 1703, the construction of the basilica is stopped after the fire of 1720. When work begins again, the idea is to make building a bond between the old city and the part which, devastated by the flames, was to be rebuilt. Inspired by the Italian architecture of the 18th century, the basilica is characterized particularly by its Baldaquin.

The worship of Marie is present. The legend tells that at the 14th century, in the church which preceded the basilica, the bells are reflected to sound and the statue of the Virgin Mary, baptized later Notre-Dame of the Miracles, indicated a flagstone on the ground. One found there the troops English come to take the city by an underground, which made it possible to push back the invasion…

Composition of the basilica: The basilica is made up of a nave equipped with two collateral, of a transept little developed and a chorus with cut sides. A punctuated plank of triglyphes (milked engraved in hollow in an ornament) and drops as well as a cornice with dentils run along the building above the arcades. The high altar is rate/rhythm by four columns with Corinthian red marble capital, coming from Saint-Berthevin, and by a baldachin out of gilded wooden with glory trinitaire.
