Based da India
Based da India belonged to the group of the islands Éparses of the Indian Ocean.
It is an atoll about 1 uninhabited km and quasi submerged with high Marée in the Canal of Mozambique between Madagascar and the African continent. The atoll, possession of the France since 1897, is a private field of the State. The interest for the France is to lay out of a exclusive economic Zone of 123.700 km.
The atoll was managed by a police chief depend on the Prefect of the Réunion since 1968, and 2005 by the prefect higher administrator of TAAF.
Since the law n° 2007-224 of the bearing February 21st, 2007 statutory and institutional provisions relative to overseas, Based da India formed part, with the others islands Éparses: Tromelin, Europa, Glorious and Juan de Nova, of the fifth district of the southern and antarctic Lands French (TAAF), Overseas territory.
