Bargello
The Bargello is a palate of Florence builds in 1255 which shelters since 1865 a national museum, the Museo Nazionale del Bargello , and its collections of Gothic sculpture and Rebirth, which are most important of Italy.
History
The palate of Bargello is called initially Prétorio palate. According to Vasari, it is built in the middle of the 13th century by Lapo Tedesco, father of Arnolfo di Cambio, for the Captain of the People. It is then increased. At the 15th century, Cosme Old the requires that one comb on his frontage the portrait of noble hung to be itself opposite with him. From 1502 to 1574, it shelters the Council of justice and the judges of the Ruota . Thereafter, it is transformed into public prison.
In 1840, one discovers in the vault of the palate a portrait of Dante paints by Giotto, which starts again the interest for the building, which is restored. In 1859, a royal decree dedicates the palate to accommodate a museum on Tuscan civilization. June 22nd, 1865, the museum is inaugurated under the name of National museum of Bargello , which it preserved nowadays.
Collections
The museum includes/understands a certain number of masterpieces, among which:
- the drunk Bacchus (1496-1497),
- a bust of Brutus (1539-1540);
- Donatello :
- David out of marble (1409),
- Holy Georges (1416-1417), originally with Orsanmichele,
- David bronzes some (1440-1450),
- Marzocco (1418-1420), originally on the place of Seigneurerie;
- the Virgin of the architects of Andrea della Robbia (1475).
- Satyr with a bottle ( Satiro idiot fiasca ) of Valerio Cigoli.
The museum also accommodates collections of arts known as minor, like the Carrand collection (bequeathed in 1888) of objects (enamels, Ivoire S, Camée S, metals, etc) of the Moyen-âge and the Renaissance.
