Baffin bay

The Baffin bay , or Baffin bay is a vast open gulf of the Atlantique, prolongation of the Mer of Labrador located between the Greenland at the east, the Baffin Island in the west and the island Ellesmere in north by 68°- 82° of western longitude, 67°- 78° of northern latitude. It was named thus in the honor of the British explorer William Baffin.

This gulf is approximately 1.500 km length on 550 broad, and is almost always covered with ices. It communicates with the Atlantique by the Détroit of Davis, with the Hudson Bay by those of Cumberland and Hudson, with the Arctic Archipel by that of Lancaster, and with the Arctic Ocean by the Détroit of Nares.
