History

The de Gaulle general and the Adenauer chancellor held a top in Bad Kreuznach in 1958: it was one of the bases of the Franco-German reconciliation.

On October 29th and 30th 1984, a new top took place with Bad Kreuznach, between the Kohl chancellor and the president of the Mitterrand Republic. At the time of this 44ème Franco-German top, it is question of continuing European construction, and in particular a project of Franco-German satellite causes the debate. The context of interior policy for the two leaders is not very good: Mitterrand is at a low point in the opinion polls, whereas Kohl is indirectly subjected to a politico-financial scandal. On the symbolic system plan, France gives to FRG a German gun captured by the revolutionary troops in 1799, to testify to this will of reconciliation.
