BFG is a French manufacturer of motor bikes.

History

Louis Boccardo, Dominique Favario and Thierry Grange create, with the beginning of the year 1980, firm BFG. Their ambition was to create road able to compete as well with allemandes as with American.

After some prototypes, the first BFG 1300 left the assembly lines in 1982. At the beginning based close to Chambéry, on the commune of Ravoire, the factory MBK of Saint-Quentin took again the production in 1983. The specimens left after 1983, approximately 150, thus raise logos MBK. It should be noted that the factory is directed more only by two people, Louis Boccardo having been laid off. This one will remain nevertheless in the field of the motor bike within the marks MF then Boccardo which will be both of bitter failures.

The main feature of this motor bike is to use automobile engines of origin Citroen GS, standard G13/646. It makes it possible to profit from a network for maintenance and to reduce the production costs. They one four cylinders is flat cooled by Air Force of 1.299 cm ³ developing 70 horses, coupled to a box with 5 reports/ratios. The transmission is done by tree and Cardan joint, thus releasing from the constraints of maintenance of a chain. The braking, although ensured by 3 discs and of the clamps Brembo, is rather soft.

The instrument panel is relatively complete, it comes from the R5 Alpine.

The telescopic fork comes from a small Spanish manufacturer: Télesco.

It available in two variations, either is equipped with a careenage Tête of fork, is called AWG, or with an integral careenage, called GTB.

Voluntarily turned towards great tourism with an enduring engine and complete equipment, but of a rather particular esthetics (the careenage was not an esthetic success!) dependant on an approximate completion and of an high price, the BFG was not success, since only 600 motor bikes were produced. The factory closes its doors in 1988. However regarded as a symbol of the technological success of France, the President of the Republic François Mitterrand had offered a BFG to the king d' Espagne Juan Carlos in 1982.

Some specimens were sold with the Gendarmerie and CRS n°1, and were used only for demonstrations as prestige.
