In a Vehicle with Wheel S, a axle is a tree placed transversely under the case and supporting via the rockets the wheels located at its ends. An axle can be simply carrying, or driving and/or directing.
In railway term, the axle generally indicates the axe+roues unit which is interdependent. When it holds meeting of two there (or more) axles on a frame one speaks then about Bogie. Thus one finds these two axles couples in the machines express train, trains which can go at a speed considered to be fast for the time.
The distance separating the “axle before” “rear axle” from a vehicle constitutes the footing.
