Ave Regina

Ave Regina is a catholic prayer dedicated to the Virgin Mary, of Ave , “Hello”, and Regina , “queen”. The Ave Maria is much more current. It one of the four Antienne S mariales is sung in the Divine office during all the year. Clément VI added to it, while thinking of Saint Ephrem and Saint Jerome. She is especially requested Fête of the presentation of Jesus until Maundy Thursday. One gives him a special importance during the Septuagésime, the Lent and the Temps of passion. Its title is written sometimes Ave Regina Cœlorum or Ave Regina Cælorum in Latin, which means Salut, Reine of the Skies in French.

Its origins are mysterious and its author is unknown. It is thought that it probably goes back to the 12th century and some say that Saint Bernard or Hermann Contractus could have composed it. In the past, it was what one called a Antienne of procession. It is mentioned in the Livre of Saint Alban. The worms Dignare laudare is particularly old for me. One compared it with the Akathistos, an Eastern anthem. Leonel Power, Jacques Obrecht, Guillaume Dufay, Tomás Shine of Victoria, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina Francesco Soriano, Josef Haydn, Jean-Baptiste de Boësset and Marc-Antoine Charpentier interpreted it musicalement. The prayer is usually divided into two stanzas and it can end in a Orémus.

What is known as of Marie in the Ave Regina is always in bond with the Christ, who is the King of the world in the catholic belief. Théologiquement, the expression “stem fertile” points out that Marie is the root of Jessé, him which was the father of the king David. It is as known as as Marie is the door of the sky because in Christian theology, the Sacré-coeur of Jesus and the Immaculate Cœur of Marie are as the doors of the Paradis. The sentence “By you the light rose on the world” refers to the birth of Jesus, who is light of the world for those which believe in him. The prayer refers to mediating qualities of the Virgin Mary, who religieusement is religieusement called Mediatrix, because it can beseech for the Humanité near God. Lastly, Delighted worms the “, glorious Vierge” is not without pointing out the “Gaude and laetare, Virgo Maria” of the Regina Cœli.
