Avannaa
Avannaa (in Kalaallisut) or Nordgrønland (in Danish, i.e. “North-Greenland”, also named Avannaarsua or Avanersuaq ) is one of the three counties - or amter - Greenland. Qaanaaq, the only city of the county, is the seat.
Description
Located at the extreme north of Greenland, Avannaa counts only 843 inhabitants on a free territory of ice of 106.700 km ², that is to say a Population density of 0,0079 inhabitant by the km ², lowest of the world for an administrative subdivision of this kind. The total surface area of Avannaa, by including the Icecap, exceeds 500.000 km ². Avannaa has a greater proportion of released ground of ice (for example, the Ground of Peary) that other zones of Greenland because of its geographical location: precipitations are very weak there.
Subdivisions
Avannaa is divided into a not-built-in Municipalité and two zones:- the municipality of Qaanaaq
- the air base of Thulé (Pituffik), wedged inside the municipality of Qaanaaq
- the National park of the North-East of Greenland, in the north of the county.
