Auterrive

Auterrive is a common French, located in the department of the Yrénées-Atlantiques and the area Aquitaine.

Geography

The grounds of the commune are sprinkled by the Gave d' Oloron, affluent of the Gave of Pau.

The village is a peninsula since confined by 6 kilometers of banks of Gave d' Oloron, then by the brook Laid It - which is used as border between Gascogne and Navarre, and Riqueigt which goes from Laid with the lakes of Mirailhs. This last, although inhabitant of Béarn, belongs to the territory of Auterrive.

History

Auterrive - formerly Auterrive-of-Gave - is a Gascon small village at the border of the Béarn (Carresse) and Navarre (Escos). Mentioned as of XIIe century, it was the seat until 1790 of a justice seigneuriale.
The church dates from XVIe century. It replaced an older church destroyed before the wars of religion. The current church transformed into Temple of 1572 to 1620, shelters a retable of 1685 and one old table representing the Michel Archangel embanking the Dragon offered to the parish by the bishop of Dax in 1739. One keeps one moving document gone back to 1622 in which the inhabitants of Auterrive leave the Protestant religion to be allocated to the catholic. They prétèrent oath in front of Henri II of Miossens. The last " conversions" were done in 1783 and the Protestant cemetery was then removed.
In 1818, married at the village the marchioness of Montehermoso, Grande of Spain and mistress of king d' Espagne Joseph Bonaparte.
To see at the village: two mills, a seigneurial announced to XIIe century and the other built in 1810, old justice, the room of the jurats and especially obviously banks of the gave. The church preserves also a table of the Virgin painted by a refugee carlist. The village a long time had the longest bridge of the department (250 meters). Culture and Inheritance

To note the strengthened enclosure of Barry to the foot of Gave, observation post and border post enters Navarre, Béarn and Gascogne. This small enclosure had a garrison of 3 soldiers until 1682. The current ruins, although resting on bases much older, seem to go back to the One hundred Year old war when Auterrive was occupied by the English and was attached to the sénéchalat of Hastingues. See the Maisonnabe house, gone back to 1661 with the district from Mirails, the Pouey house old justice seigneuriale, the Haû house old dependence of the abbey of Sorde and finally one moving small enamelled plate bearing " June 1875 " and making remember terrible raw which carried the bridge of the village by making two dead.

Internal bond

Common of the Yrénées-Atlantiques Church of the 16th century, several martyrdoms of which the cross of the Michaelmas which marked the limits of the abbey of Sorde. There was a vault with the district of Mirails which was destroyed a few years ago.
