Australia Telescopes Compact Array
The Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) is a millimetre-length Interféromètre for the astronomical observations , located in Australia, in the News-Wales of the South, with 25km in the west of Narrabri (500km in the North-West of Sydney). It is managed by the Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF).
This network of radio telescopes, entered in service in 1988, consists of 6 antenna S 22 m in diameter each one. Five of these antennas are laid out on rails in order to operate in various configurations (those are used successively with the 3 weeks order for each one). This allows obtaining a basic broad outline 6km and that of a small base line of 75m. After various improvements, this instrument is not only any more able to observe emissions whose Wavelength varies between 3 and 90cm: it has now acccès with those measuring 12 and 3mm. This interferometer also makes use of the radio telescope of Mopra to increase its power of observation.
