Aulnay-sous-Bois is a common French, located in the department Seine-Saint-Denis (in the past Seine-et-Oise) and the area Île-de-France.
Its inhabitants is called the Aulnaysiens .
Geography
Situation
Aulnay-sous-Bois, located in the Paris and its suburbs, is distant of 19 km of the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris, and of 5 km of the Aéroport Roissy-Charles-of-Gaulle. The commune is stretched over a 6,5 km length of north in the south and over a width varying from 1,4 to 4,3 km of is in west, for a surface of 1620 hectares.Aulnay-sous-Bois east bordered by the 7 common following:

- in the North-East: Villepinte
- in the east: Sevran
- in south-east: Livry-Gargan

The commune is girdled by the Highway in the west, the highways and Francilienne in north. The Canal of Ourcq passes in its south-eastern end, being next to Livry-Gargan.

SNCF railway station, tram
The city is served by the Gare of Aulnay-sous-Bois on line the RER and Transilien Paris-Crépy-in-Valois.Since November 2006, old the line of the Egg cups connecting Aulnay-sous-Bois to Bondy is replaced by a Tram-train which takes again the same route and makes it possible to join the lines of the RER and the RER. Two disconnections are in projects: the first towards Clichy-sous-Bois and Montfermeil with the height of Gargan; the second towards Garonor via the Rose-of-Winds and with the height of Rougemont-Chanteloup.
The Gare of Aulnay-sous-Bois is also served by the lines of bus Bus the RATP, Noctilien, TRA and CIF 15.

Toponymy
The name “Aulnay” means Aulnaie, place planted of Aulne S (of the medieval Latin “ alnetum ”, trees which formerly covered the territory of the town of Aulnay).Called Aulnay in the beginning, the commune at summer re-elected in 1787 Aulnay-lès- Bondy , then Aulnay-sous-Bois the January 5th 1903. Wood evoked are old the Forêt of Bondy which covered the majority of the North-East of Paris.
History
August 1st- Origin of settlement: 6000 before J. - C. (vestiges found in the valley of Sausset)
- Between 4th and 2nd centuries before J. - C., of the farmers lived around a “villa”, agricultural domain of certain Sabinus: the farm of Savigny.
- Until the 15th century, the lords will bear the name of Aulnay .
- In 1814 and 1870, Prussian occupations of the village follow one another. For a long time, the houses will be destroyed and the fields will remain deserted.
- In 1875, the Compagnie of the railroads of North opens the station on the new line Paris - Soissons. The rise of Aulnay is due mainly to this event.
- At the beginning of the 20th century, Aulnay develops by the stressing of the rail traffic and the installation of industries.

Aulnay-sous-Bois is divided into two cantons:- the Canton of Aulnay-under-Wood-North account 55.298 inhabitants;
- the Canton of Aulnay-under-Wood-South account 24.723 inhabitants.
The city belongs to the Intercommunity association of studies and installation of the Plain of France and Aulnoye (SEAPFA).
Administrative evolution
- Until 1787, the parish of Aulnay forms part the province of Ile-de-France, Prévôté, Généralité, Élection of Paris, Subdélégation of Saint-Denis.
- In 1787, during the formation of the department of Saint-Germain, the village of Aulnay is included/understood in the jurisdiction of Gonesse.
- In 1790 Aulnay belongs to the department of the Seine-et-Oise, of the canton and district of Gonesse
- In 1801 Aulnay becomes Aulnay-lès-Bondy and belonged to the district of Pontoise.
- In 1903 Aulnay-lès-Bondy becomes Aulnay-sous-Bois
- Créé in 1922, the first canton of Aulnay-sous-Bois also included/understood Blanc-Mesnil, Sevran, Villepinte and Tremblay-les-Gonesse.
- From 1964, the town of Aulnay only formed a canton with it. Aulnay-sous-Bois, which depended before on the department of Seine-et-Oise and the district of Pontoise, is attached to the new department of the Seine-Saint-Denis, district of Raincy.
- Since July 1967, Aulnay-sous-Bois is divided in two distinct electoral cantons, and counts two general advisers.
