Audio mixing

The audio mixing , usually called mix , consists in balancing the Fréquence S and Amplitude S (volume) relative of a certain number of audio sources. Typically, these audio sources come from Microphone S (in studio or live ), from sources MIDDAY or from sounds synthesized by a computer or a Synthétiseur.

The mixing can be carried out in studio or live (in real-time, at the time of a Sonorisation of Concert for example).

In studio, a Sound engineer uses a Table of mixing, also called console, on which one finds a great number of potentiometers, grouped in columns according to the way that they control. The mixing aims then to harmonize the various multitrack tracks of a recording, in order to produce a numeric signal of 44,1  Khz in 16  bits (what is the standard CD) for the creation of a Compact disk (CD), or a signal of 48  Khz in 16 or 24  bits for the creation of a film soundtrack, a radio program or television, a video game, etc

The mixing can also be carried out by a DJ ( disc jockey ), which mixes two recordings between them then. Often, the DJ carries out a transition between the end from a music and the beginning from another, which requires an adjustment of volume, Tempo as well as frequency sometimes (see also: Chock tempo).

Nowadays, the Ordinateur S personnel became sufficiently powerful to ensure the role of a table of mixing. More and more of independent artists start to use their personal computer for the numerical recording, the audio edition and the mixing . In fact, a computer equipped with a chart its adequate can make it possible to produce a result of a quality which approaches that one would obtain in studio of professional recording. However, sound engineer remains a complex trade, and the audio and data-processing material is not the only condition of a good recording, Mixage and Mastering. These home studios can nevertheless prove to be satisfactory solutions for reasonable budgets.
