Audeux (river)

The Audeux is a French Rivière which runs in the department of the Doubs (25). It is an affluent of the Doubs out of left bank, therefore a tributary of a tributary of the the Rhone by Doubs and the the Saone.

Geography

Audeux is born on the territory from Eysson, small town of the Doubs near to Épenouse. Its course takes initially the direction of the North-West, then with semi-course a change carries out towards the North-East. It is thrown finally in the Doubs with Bridge-the-Mills vis-a-vis Balsam-the-Ladies.

Common crossings

Audeux crosses or skirts twelve communes, all located in the department of Doubs.

Hydrology

Audeux is a fairly abundant river, contrary to the majority of the rivers of the basin of Doubs which generally are very provided. Its flow was observed during one 28 years period (1973-2000), with Silley-Bléfond, locality rather close to its confluence with the Loue. The catchment area of the river is there of 167 km ² is more or less 90% of its totality.

The interannual medium flow or module of the river with Silley-Bléfond is of 1,54 m ³ a second.

Audeux presents seasonal fluctuations of flow marked enough, with one period of high waters of winter carrying the average monthly flow on a level located between 1,94 and 2,94 m ³ a second, from November to March included (with an in February maximum). As of at the end of March the flow decreases gradually to lead to the period of the low waters which proceeds July at September, involving a fall of the monthly medium flow going to the floor of 0,333 m ³ in August. However the fluctuations of flow can be more important according to the years and over shorter periods.

With the low water level the VCN3 can fall until 0,001 m ³, in the event of dry quinquennial period, that is to say 1 liter a second, which is very severe, the river being thus practically dry (see note).

As for the risings, they can be important taking into account the smallness of the catchment area. The QIX 2 and QIX 5 or calculated flows of biennial and quinquennial rising are worth respectively 22 and 30 m ³ a second. The QIX 10 or calculated flow of decennial rising is of 34 m ³ a second, the QIX 20 of 39 m ³, while the QIX 50 is assembled to 45 m ³ a second (see note).

The recorded maximum instantaneous flow with Silley-Bléfond during this 28 years period, was of 49,8 m ³ a second on May 25th, 1983, while the value maximum day laborer was of 42 m ³ a second the same day. If one compares the maximum instantaneous flow on a QIX scale of the river, one notes that this rising of May 1983 much higher than raw the cinquantennale was defined by the QIX 50, and thus completely exceptional.

The Lame of water past in the catchment area of Audeux is of 292 millimetres annually, which is slightly lower than the overall average of the France all basins confused, but especially definitely less low than the average of the basin of the the Saone (501 millimetres in Lyon). The specific Débit of the river (or Qsp) consequently posts the figure of 9,2 liters a second and per square kilometer of basin.
