Auderghem
Auderghem (in Brabançon Avergom , in Dutch Oudergem ) is one of the 19 common bilingual of Belgium located in the Région of Brussels-Capital.
It counts 29 265 inhabitants (at January 1st 2005 according to INS), called Auderghemois, and covers a surface of 9,0296 km ². Its zip code is 1160.
Located at the south-east of the Town of Brussels, along the valley of Woluwe and with orée of the Forêt of Look after, Auderghem is a common privileged people from the point of view of her environment. In spite of the main roads which furrow it (Boulevard of the Sovereign, Chaussée of Wavre, Viaduc Hermann-Debroux) and the intensification of the road traffic, Auderghem knew to preserve a relatively great part of its natural heritage and history: ponds, the Abbey of the Red-Cloister and its center of Art, the Castle of Loneliness, Priory of Valley Duchess, the Castle of Three Fountains and the remarkable Vault Holy-Anne.
However, the castle of Red-Cloister, which had been sold in 1960, did not escape the demolition and was destroyed as of the following year. This castle, after having belonged to Felix Govaert (act of June 28th, 1911 spent in front of the notary Georges De Ro with Saint-Jose-ten-Noode), became the property of the notary Albert Poelaert, nephew of the famous architect Joseph Poelaert, then, in 1927, of the count de Meeus. In 1953 the " was created; Company of the Castle of Red-Cloître" (Appendices with the Belgian Monitor, February 2nd and 3rd 1953) which had as an aim the development of the field. (A. Maes, " Two centuries in the life of Red-Cloître" , in, the Folklore Brabançon , Brussels, 1980, p. 166)
It is bordering on the communes of Etterbeek, Ixelles, Overijse, Tervuren, Woluwe-Saint-Pierre and Watermael-Boitsfort.

History
Three villages of the forest (Auderghem, Watermael and Boitsfort) live since centuries together…
In 1794, the soldiers of the French revolution decided to separate Auderghem, Watermael and Boitsfort to make 3 distinct communes of them.
In 1811, Napoleon, by imperial decree, decides to again join together in only one administrative entity the 3 villages of Watermael, Boitsfort and Auderghem.
But Auderghem was quickly requested, by royal decree, not to disturb more the existence of the couple Watermael-Boitsfort and thus to withdraw themselves.
Auderghem then became an independent commune in 1863, with its 1.600 inhabitants.
The construction of the railway line connecting Brussels and Tervuren like, in 1910, the construction of the Boulevard of the Sovereign modernizes the commune, the population increases quickly. It reaches the 8000 inhabitants at the end of the First World War.
The priory and the Château of Valley Duchess live the commune. This property of the royal donation is seldom accessible to the public. It is there that the Ministers for the Government met in one time, and sporadically nowadays.
The vault Holy-Anne whose origins go back to the XIIe century is, it, accessible to the public. Closed down in 1843, it was sold on several occasions. One can admire still there remarkable sculptures and furniture of the Moyen-âge. The vault Holy-Anne is the oldest monument of the commune.
The Commune of Auderghem offers many green areas. In addition to the priory of Valley Duchess, one discovers there the priory or Abbaye of the Red-Cloister, the Botanical garden Jean Massart, the Forêt of Look after…
