Attack

A attack is an action intended to harm (with to make an attempt ) the goods or the life of others. One generally speaks about attack in a context Politique, even terrorist, but it can exist economic attacks (aiming at évincer a competitor).

There exist also false attacks, i.e. threats which are not concretized, but which disturbs the current activities. In this case, one could speak about attack to normal control about the businesses or life in society.

Types of attacks

The classification of the attacks can be made multiple ways.

The principal distinction is certainly that which concerns the objectives and the silent partner of the attack, which can be

  • a declared enemy of the target, with an aim simply of harming,
  • a friend supposed, which makes a Trahison then,
  • a friend acting on behalf of the target, one speaks then about Provocation,
  • a naive believer to act for a certain objective, whereas it was handled within the framework of a “crooked blow”. These cases have an unbounded complexity then, with interractions between multiple protagonists lying itself the ones with the others.

They are classified according to the method:

  • ambush: one awaits the passage of the target to start a shooting in order to eliminate it, like in the case of the de Gaulle General with the Petit-Clamart and of the president John F. Kennedy with Dallas.
  • attack with the bends: an explosive load is placed in the intention to destroy goods or to kill out of the people or, more rarely, simply to show the capacity of harmful effect of those which posed it. The load can be dissimulated anywhere, in a building, a public place, in a Automobile (one speaks then about “car bomb”), in a letter or a postal parcel (“parcel bomb”). For example, Unabomber was a specialist in the attacks to the parcel bombs.
  • Suicide bombing: a person undertakes to cause the Mort and the Destruction by leaving her own life there. One estimates that this method is imparable, except imposing unbearable restrictions (complete destruction of the private life). The suicide bombing using a plane diverted was the weapon of the most fatal attack of the history. For example, the Attentats of September 11th, 2001 were largely médiatisés.

They are also classified according to the target:

  • anonymous people
  • individual targeted
  • installation commercial Industry lle or, and building (vacuum or with the public present)
  • drunk, Plane, Boat or other means of transport, and their users.

The attacks, in this last case, count among worst the air crashes.

Certain attacks are sometimes camouflaged in banals accidents, while conversely the same attack can be the subject of multiple claims.

Fight against the attacks

In France, a special device was set up twice since 1995 to reduce the risks of attacks: the plan Vigipirate. It is always in hand in 2007. It includes/understands a certain number of measurements as the excavation of the bags at the entries of places accommodating of the public of number, the installation of an increased number of police force, assisted by Militaire S, or prohibition to station in front of significant places (schools, places of worship, enter others).

The fight against the attacks, because of the restricitions of which they are the pretext, is a major concern for the defense organization of the Human rights.

To note

A “attack” is a “attempt against”. When it fails, it is thus a missed attack, to in no case a “attempt at attack”, this last expression being a Pléonasme.
