Origin and localization

Has Atta is large a Berber tribe , pertaining to the confederation Has Atta - as the Hdiddou Has, which belong to the confederation of the Has Yafelman - currently distributed on three provinces of the central Morocco: Azilal, Ouarzazate and Errachidia.

Since millenia, Atta Has them live the southern center and the south-east of the High Moroccan Atlas . Their language is the Tamazight, and not the tachelhit.

In its work “ Has Them Aha of the Sahara and the pacification of High Drâa ”, G. Spillman mentions the existence of five tribes (Khems Khmas): Has Ouallal , Has Ouahlim , Has Isfoul , Has Iazza and Has Ounbgi . According to this author, these tribes subdivide in subgroups called fractions, which in their turn gives small named fractions “ ighess ” in tamazight, which means “the bone”. Ighess is thus the basic element which constitutes the framework tribe, and consequently, that of the confederation. This structure socio-policy functions in a quasi democratic way.

The historical identity of Has Atta is related to a character named Dadda - or the large father Atta - considered as the common ancestor and the spiritual father, because of his relations with two saints, Moulay Abdellah Ben Hssain, founder of the Zaouïa Amagharyine, and Sidi Ahanssal, founder of Zaouïa Hanssalia.
