Atiku Abubakar
Atiku Abubakar is a politician Nigerian born the November 25th 1946 with Jada, State d' Adamawa (Nigeria).
He is vice-president of the president Olusegun Obasanjo May 29th 1999 with the May 29th 2007 and member of the party Action Congress .
At the time of the attempt at constitutional modification impetus at the beginning of 2006 and aiming at authorizing the president to be able to aspire to a third mandate, Abubakar lined up in the camp of the opponents. Placing itself in the opposition to its party and probably wish of president Obasanjo. The defeat of the constitutional modification in front of the Senate on May 16th, 2006 exacerbated the tensions between Obasanjo and her opponents within PDP , mainly Abubakar and Uche Chukwumerije. Abubakar asked for the resignation of Obasanjo and announced her candidature for the presidential election of 2007.
The candidature of Abubakar is not chosen by the PDP which prefers that of Umaru Yar' Adua. Abubakar is excluded from the party following its nomination by the party Action Congress . December 23rd, 2006, the president Olusegun Obasanjo withdrew all the rights and preferences whose Atiku Abubakar in its quality enjoyed vice-president whereas the day before, the popular Democratic party (PDP, with the capacity) declared this vacant post. Atiku Abubakar, on vacation with the the United States, denounced this dismissal and invited the Nigerians to regard it as a coup d'etat against the constitution. 20 February 2007, Court of Appeal of Abuja considering that “According to the Constitution, the Head of the State does not have the capacity to declare vacant the function of vice-president”, considers illegal this dismissal.
February 7th, 2007, the government agency of fight against corruption ( Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ), publishes a list of 135 politicians whom she judges “unsuited to hold a mandate because of their corruption”. Abubakar is named in the list. The following day, the PDP replaces the majority of the candidates named by the EFCC and requires of the other parties to do as much of it.
April 16th, 2007, the Supreme court decides to authorize the candidature of Abubakar for the presidential election of April 21st, 2007.
