Athkatla
Athkatla is a fictional city resulting from the forgotten Royaumes, countryside of the Roleplay Donjons and Dragons. It is the capital of the area of Amn.
Overall picture
Athkatla is a harbor big city, located at a few kilometers in the south of the Cloudy Peaks, an area made up of high mountains. It is located in the middle of trade route connecting, in the south, of the cities like Calimshan, and in north, of the cities like Eauprofonde. Thanks to that, it is the largest port and the richest port of all Amn. It is the capital of this country and was seen offering a very significant part in the video game Baldur' S Gate II. Throughout this play, it is presented like a town of great richness and cultures various, where the human ones prevail. The other races, like the dwarves, the elves, the gnomes and the small-people also live in Athkatla of substantial number.Athkatla is governed by a rich but corrupted government. Many criminals in any kind (pickpockets, pickpockets, murderers,…) operate in Athkatla, which lives continuously in the fear of the magi and the wizards. Indeed, the magus Jon Irenicus has one day exploded a whole part of the walk of Waukyne, a significant market of Athkatla. Moreover, the magic practice is completely prohibited in the enclosure of the city, law maintained by powerful wizards, the Hooded Mages. Those which, in Athkatla, want to use the magic must corrupt the Council by achieving their dark tasks or by paying a great amount of money like bribe, or both.
Athkatla is divided between 8 districs principal: the district of the temple, the district of the government, the district of the bridge, the docks (where reside the Voleurs of the Shade and the Ménestrels, inter alia organizations), low-districts, the walk of Waukyne, the cemetery and doors of the city.
The city is all the more large as it recovers all the northern part of Baldur' S Gate. The environment of Athkatla attracted positive comments of the players of Baldur' S Gate II, who said to have the feeling of a real city. It is mainly due to the very many PNJ (Characters Not Players) that it contains, as well as the many interiors, searches and activities which it proposes.
Places, inhabitants and government
PresidencyThe government of Athkatla is an oligarchy, managed by a commercial council, the Council of the Six, even if the Robbers of the Shade play an active role in the policy of the government.
Population
the population of Athkatla varies enormously according to the seasons. Approximately 130.000 inhabitants in winter, but a number of inhabitants which can go up to 400.000 in summer. The population contains 90% of human and 10% of other races.
Raw materials
All the products saleable (and purchasable) are offered in this city, whose many armories, armours and accessories are regularly restocked all areas of Féérune.
Army
The garrison of Athkatla, made up of 4.000 men, is carried out by the Captain Beelars Orhotek, with a small fleet (8 ships and 900 men). All the major mercantile families of Athkatla control 100 to 500 (the legal maximum) soldiers.
Known magi
Vynmarius is one of the rare known wizards of Amn; it emanates from it one will have of threat and mistrust. It is known like an agent of the Council of the Six, and, perhaps, Culte of the Dragon.Puhrain Bollivar is a woman having about fifty years. It is commercial travelling books in the district of the low-districts. Secretly, it is a soothsayer, agent and mistress of the member of the Tessarch council.
It is good to recall that all the wizards of a great talent residing at Athkatla are either of the puppets of the Council of the Six, or hidden very well.
The walk of Waukyne
The walk is a large oval market, located in the center of Athkatla. The walk is named in the honor of Waukyne, the last goddess of the richness. A great portion of this market was destroyed by the magus Jon Irenicus. On the walk, there are stores of books, grocers, houses, a carnival, inns, and the Market of the Adventurer, held by the former adventurer Ribald Barterman.
Clergies and churches
The house of Harbalest, a monastery and a temple of the god Milil, is one of the largest churches of Athkatla. Mysterious Père of the Songs supervises his development. The temple is significant for three reasons: it was the place where Milil rested during the Temps of the disorders; it contains the mythical organ named the Bellows of Milil (which can be heard in all the port); and, moreover, Milil itself created a door connecting the temple to the school of bards of Eauprofonde.
The Dome of the Rose, monastery and temple of Lathandre is another significant religious construction located in the district of the Temple. The Lord of the Paddle, Thaddin Dawnhunter, a quiet priest with a light tendency to mercenary attitude, supervises the other priests, monks and candidates. The hall of the temple is covered by a dome of glass teiné pink which rougeoie at dawn during the songs of the morning and the offices of the monks.
The hall of the Moon is the temple of Séluné, including/understanding a conical dome with six faces. The Large Priestess Aryn Gallowglass, a half-sister of the tyrant Ernest Gallowglass de Téthyr, is a qualified businesswoman, having three merchant ships to her name. She gives the maximum of her profits to the temple.
As the symbol of Waukyne (of the pearls and the parts) is engraved on many doors and panels of Athkatla, one can say that all the streets conceal a sanctuary of the goddess of the richness.
Many small temples honor with the gods like Chauntéa, Talos, and Umberlie; only one temple is dedicated to Illmater.
Guilds
The guild of the Robbers of the Shade and that of Ménéstrels are present at Athkatla. The Robbers of the Shade are the most powerful guild by far, with several hundreds of members and a great influence on the government. The Robbers of the Shade are originating in Eauprofonde, of or they were driven out, with the result that the fall of the lords of Eauprofonde is due to them much in heart.
Taverns
The Mithrest Inn : An old inn, cultural and having a style particuler.the Five Tankards : A new inn, active and clean. This tavern quickly became known because she promises to be used all the known beverages as Féérune.
Inn of Delosar : An old man pub preserved well but at court of personnel, especially attended by the guardes of the city.
the Cup into Hard : Another bar, especially filled with the new merchants, on the way to become rich: the conversation turns especially around the prices and of the exchanges.
the Copper Crown: An enormous inn, but accommodating customers little ragoûtants: peasants, pirates and smugglers of the low-districts. It has also function of brothel, and can accommodate engagements in a hidden arena.
