Atakpamé
Atakpamé , fifth city of the Togo by her population (84 979 inhabitants in 2006), is the capital of the area of the plates and is with 161 kilometers of Lome.
Atakpamé is also the chief town of the Préfecture of Ogou Located at 500 meters of altitude, it occupies in the Togolese history, a role of city refuge.
Fifth city of the country after Lome, Sokodé, Kara and Kpalimé, Atakpamé is very well served by the transportation routes, it is indeed located on the principal road axis of the Togo (National 1) which on the basis of the ocean (Lome) disenclose the countries of the the Sahel. The city has even an aerodrome.
The market days, Atakpamé is a very animated city.
The city is located in an area or the forests many (teaks, banana trees, irokos, caîcedrats, mahogany trees, lings) but also in a space are strongly cultivated (cocoa, coffee, cotton and palm plantation).
The city is twinned with Niort in France, which made it possible to carry out many stabilization program (Construction of bridges and gutters, Installation, paving of streets) and construction of municipal infrastructures. That made it possible moreover to extend the drinking water network to several districts and to develop various medical but so cultural programs like the construction and the equipment of public library and an additional library, the creation of a book: " In the middle of the hills, Atakpamé" like of a collection of poems and a cartoon on the history of the town of Atakpamé.
