Astarté
Astarté , Athtart in Ougarit, Ashtart as a punico-phenician, or Ishtar, derived from the goddess of Babylon, generally comparable with the goddess mésopotamienne Inanna, is a goddess phenician presenting a quarrelsome character (also established in the Egyptian Mythologie under the ramessides).
With - califourchon on its horse, it accompanies and protects the sovereign . It became the girl of Re or Ptah, and is one of the partners of Seth). It will be Tanit, at the Carthaginois.
Tanit is a goddess of origin phenician of the fertility, governing the births and the growth. It was the guardian goddess of the town of Serepta and its worship became extensive with Carthage where it was named Oum .
Female element of the supreme couple that it forms with Baal, this one takes up varied duties: protective from the sovereign and his dynasty, it also protects the sailors but its worship is, as for the majority of the paramount female divinities of antiquity (and the proto-history), related on the fertility and fruitfulness.
Sometimes venerated under the name of Tanit, it will be comparable with Venus by the Romans under the official name of Venerates Ericina.
The Papyrus of Astarté (fragmentary papyrus) seems to imply that Astarté is that which thwarts the exorbitant requests for tribute that Yam (king of the gods) request to the other gods.
