Area of the nations, nationalities and people of the South
The Area of the nations, nationalities and people of the South (often shortened in its English form SNNPR) is one of the nine areas ethno-linguistics of the Ethiopia. It is located at the south-west of the country. Its capital is Awasa.
The Exchange Statistical Agency off Ethiopia (Agency of the Statistics of Ethiopia) estimated its population at 14.901.990 hab. in 2005, including 8,6% the urban ones. Its surface is of 112 343,19 km ². Its population density is of 133 hab. /km ².
This Area consists of a multitude of ethnicities. One finds among those Sidamingna (18%), Guragigna (14,72%), Welayta (11,53%), Hadiyigna (8,53%), Keffigna (5,22%) and Kembatigna (4,35%). The working language of the administration is the Amharique.
