Arcis-on-Paddle is a common French, located in the department of the Aube and the area Champagne-Ardenne.

Geography

History

  • Saint Victor was hermit and confessor with Arcis-on-Paddle at the 6th century.
  • At the same time, a local coining in the name of Leudericus and Daovaldus was produced.
  • Arcis was the theater of a bloody combat delivered by the March 1814 to the Austro-Russians: part of the city was burned. See Battle of Arcis-on-Paddle.
  • Since 1976, Arcis-on-Paddle is twinned with Gomaringen, Germany.

Georges Jacques Danton, revolutionary French, was born with Arcis-on-Paddle the October 26th 1759. He died guillotine in Paris the April 5th 1794

In literature
