Archidamos II

Archidamos II (in Greek old Ἀρχίδαμος ), King de Sparte.

King of Sparte towards 469, of the royal family of the Eurypontides, Archidamos puts an end to the third Guerre of Messénie in 462 with the assistance of Athens. Friend of Périclès, famous for his prudence, Archidamos tries to avoid the Peloponnesian War, then in 431 invades the Attique without managing to block Athens seriously (on this occasion, it prohibits his soldiers from damaging the fields of Périclès). It seizes the town of Platées in 427 after a two year old seat.

He is the father of Agis II and Agésilas II and the grandfather of Archidamos III. He yields to the throne to his Agis son II worms 425 and dies in 422.
