Aquitard

There exist at least two definitions of the term aquitard , term hydrogeologic employed in opposition to Aquifère and Aquiclude:

  • a aquitard represents a formation containing a considerable quantity of water, which could not be recovered in a profitable way. To regional scales, such a formation would make however quantities of water appreciable
  • a aquitard represents a semipermeable formation which takes part in the drainage vertical of the supposed boxing formations more permeable.
