Applied arts

By applied arts , one indicates the vast branch of industry of the designers, i.e., those which reflect and work the form and the function of all that surrounds the individual: objects, habitat, clothing…

He is not to confuse with the Visual arts (production of only one original object as regards Peinture, Sculpture, Architecture), but he forms part of Beautiful arts well.

We can consider that the expression “applied arts” is the contraction of the expression “Applied arts to Industry”. The birth of the AA was thus born with the beginnings from industrialization from the manufactoring processes whose example can be the Art nouveau (with the turning of XIXe and XXe centuries), for which the first architectural elements moulded out of plaster made their appearance.

It is not any more one craftsman who manufactures an object Unique, but a “Designer”, creator who makes a prototype first of all then perhaps, if the object is relevant, a mould so that its invention or innovation is duplicated with identical in a certain number of specimens (concept of series)

It is only one example, and from the technology which evolves/moves allied with the need for a certain profitability is born a standardization from the manufactoring processes. Creation, it, remains the fact of the designer, the designer… of the professional of the applied arts.

Today one considers in the applied arts:

  • design of space (architecture of interior, paysagism, event-driven: scenography, stands,…)
  • design of mode (clothing, haute couture, costume, specialized behaviors,…, accessories: bags shoes hats…)
  • design of product (movable, industrial objects…)
  • design of communication (graphics, pub, multi-media…).
  • visual Space, space of communication (stands…)
  • the Trades of art (stained glass, jewels, ceramics, etc)

Note: The Applied arts (STI Applied arts) indicate also a formation of the type baccalaureat, energy of the Second to Final (Technological Section) Following final the pupil can then follow:

  • a B.T.S. of the fields of the applied arts (viselle Communication, produced Design…)
  • a D.M.A (Diploma of the trades of arts: EX: D.M.A. illustration, Decoration of the wall…)

The Creative of applied arts, generally called Designer, works in team after establishment of a schedule of conditions, respecting a request or orders, according to a mode of production and of targeted customers. It can work on its account, for an agency (example: arranges of architecture) or for an industrial company. He is opposed in that to the Artiste which conceives only a project.
