Anzali bandar-E

Bandar-E Anzali بندرانزلی , known under the name of Bandar-E Pahlavi (بندرپهلوی) before the Iranian Revolution of 1979, is a port city of the province of the Gilan, in Iran, located on the Caspian Sea at 41 kilometers of Rasht and at 360 kilometers of Teheran.

General information

Anzali bandar-E is the most important seaport of the north of Iran. It consists of a named principal island Mianposhteh and surrounding grounds.

Tourist attractions are the long walk along the port and the marshy delta of the river Sefid Roud.

The Lagon Anzali (Mordab-e-Anzali) is a separate stretch of water of the Caspian Sea by a strip of land close to the town of Anzali Bandar-E. This lagoon which is very rich in fish is polluted by the industrial waste.

History

The city, founded at the 16th century, was burned by the Russians in 1805, which destroyed its historical documents and its buildings. The city is however known since the empire safavide as a door towards Europe for the trade of silk, thanks to its geographical location.

Industry

In addition to an important port activity, the city and its area are characterized by a strong production from Caviar.
