Antonín Novotný
Antonín Novotný (December 10th, 1904 - January 28th, 1975) is president de Tchécoslovaquie of 1957 with 1968.
It is resulting from a poor family and learns mechanics and iron work, after which it works as workman. In 1921, it enters to the Czechoslovakian Communist party and exerts several functions gradually there (mainly in division pragoise of the party) then, in 1937 and 38 he is secretary of the party with Hodonín. The forced dissolution of the Czechoslovakian Communist party in 1938 makes him find a post of simple workman in province.
During the Second world war, it takes part in the illegal activities of communist resistance to Fascism, it is arrèté in 1941 and is interned until 1945 with Mauthausen.
In the immediate future post-war period, he is secretary of the party with Prague (until 1951) and (until 1968) member of the central committee of the party. In 1951, it is named member of the presidium of the party and in 1953, it is named first secretary of the Czechoslovakian Communist party: he is the true Master of the country and its nomination, on November 19th, 1957 at the position of president of Czechoslovakia is only one matter of form.
Czechoslovakia entered during one time of glaciation during which the company and the economy will solidify completely: industry knows a fast decline (to read for this reason: Economy of Czechoslovakia ). The personality which incarnates this period is Antonín Novotný, general secretary and president. Fidel Castro will say of him that it was “about a clinical case of mediocrity”. This analysis undoubtedly summarizes the man and perfectly his time.
This glaciation (which precedes the “standardization” years Husák) hard until the Printemps of Prague: March 30th, 1968, Alexander Dubček, chief of the Slovak PC and the general Ludvík Svoboda, both Communists of long time and faithful to the Soviet Union, replace Antonín Novotný with the head, successively, of the party and the State.
