Anti-folk
Anti-folk (or antifolk ) is a musical genre related on the Punk rock'n'roll and the American music Folk which began in the middle of the years 1980 with New York.
Description
The antione finds its roots in the Punk rock'n'roll, and is always regarded as a sub-genus of this scene. In a broad definition, the antione combines the naturalness, the abrasive and the political commitment of the punk scene with the sound of the traditional American folk.
This kind takes again serious political commitment of the music hippie of the Sixties and adds to him a natural and authentic sound. It disparages the serious one and the claim of the principal current of the scene folk. In the Antione, the autodérision and the autoglorification in a certain way amalgamated, as the political comments were dependant on the love songs for drug in the sixties.
The antione is related to other musical genres such as the Urban Folk and the Counterfolk. Some artists, like Dufus, Need New Body, and Man Man, left the scene. But, this is a " kind, " a " scene, " a " communauté" or right a band of type-setters who like to join the ones the others? The majority of the people concerned answer that it is about a combination of all that is above.
The American scene
The Moldy Peaches and Ani DiFranco is regarded as the artists who influenced this kind, and is responsible for his popularity. On the west coast, Bobby Joe Ebola and the Children MacNuggits of the label S.P.A.M. Records contributed to this kind with its vulgar acoustic rock'n'roll. Currently, the anti-folk music is popular in several parts of the the United States and starts with répendre with the the United Kingdom and in Europe, mainly thanks to the label Rough Trade, in Moldy Peaches, and Jeffrey Lewis, but also with emergence of independent musical communities, and with the international rounds which built musical and friendly partnerships. The scene antifolk of New York is mainly located around the Sidewalk Cafe, a club in the East Village which accueuille of the spectacles and which programs one night open scene named the Antione, receiving Anti-Folker type-setters. Olive Juice Music is also important for the community, this collective and label are centered around the studio of recording directed by Major Matt Mason the USA, and Luv-HAVE-Batch, a label house directed by prolific Dashan Coram.
The British scene
These last years, the antifolk was spread in all United States. The British scene antifolk (largely centered around London and of Brighton) quickly developed its own identity. The London scene arrived the first at prominence with concerts encouraged not the dirty humor of Filthy Pedro and the disturbing humor of David Cronenberg' S wife. The British scene quickly procreated, with Larry Pickleman, the creators of Tweecore, the Bobby Mcgees and the queen of AFUK Mertle. Other important groups are JJ Crash with its political insinuations and its fables tragicomic and irritated on social alienation by Paul Hawkins. The Associated Artists with AFUK such as Mink Troubadour Squadron Kamikaze and Emmy the Great started to be diffused on the national radios while the favorites of AFUK, Milk Kan, seem well-placed to penetrate in the circle of the most diffused groups.
The Australian scene
There exists an active scene antifolk in Australia. Centered around the disadvantaged districts of Melbourne, of many artists, whose The Lucksmiths, Darren Hanlon, Jodi Phillis and The Mabels play of the caustic and fine songs to the melodies simple inspired the pop one of the Sixties. The Lucksmiths is a certain international success. The Australian antifolk differs from American by the topics which are often more ironic and more tangible. In this respect, they bring the antione closer to the Post-rock'n'roll. The label Candle Records of Melbourne contains many of these artists.
