Anthelme Richerand

Anthelme, baron Richerand (1779-1840) was a French surgeon.

Born with Belley, it opened in Paris, as of the twenty years age, of the private lessons which attracted crowd. It made appear into 1802 its Nouveaux elements of physiology , which obtained a great success.

It was early named surgeon as a chief of the Hôpital Saint-Louis, professor with the Medical school, and fulfills these functions until its death.

In addition to his Elements of physiology, which it improved gradually, one has of him:

  • Nosographie surgical (1805 and 1821);
  • Of the popular errors relating to medicine (1809);
  • recent progress of the surgery (1825).

Richerand aimed especially to the merit of propagator of science. Though dependant with Cabanis and the Company of Auteuil, this physiologist did not adopt their doctrines materialists and atheists.
