Synopsis
Girl of the baron de Sancé de Monteloup, high very freely, Angelica côtoie young people of his age, in particular Nicolas, his friend of childhood. In order to perfect his education, his/her father entrusts it to his cousin and neighbor the marquis of Plessis-Suspension braces. Scoffed by her cousins, who calls it the “princess with the sad dress”, it surprises one day a conversation, where one speaks about the project of the Prince de Condé to poison the future king Louis XIV. It then steals the flask of poison and the message which accompanies it. But she speaks too much: Cop, which suspects it of knowing about the plot which is woven, makes it lock up in a convent. The years pass. When his/her father, ruined, makes some leave prematurely, it is to teach him that she is promised with the richissime count de Toulouse, Joffrey de Peyrac, that one known as lame and disfigured by a scar. Despaired, Angélique is given to Nicolas, but they are surprised by Guillaume, the coachman of the baron de Sancé de Monteloup. Nicolas kills Guillaume then, and must flee, not without to have made promise in Angélique to join it at the small day… But Angélique does not find Nicolas. Resigned, it is solved to meet the Count de Peyrac, her husband-to-be. Joffrey then deploys all its patience and its seduction, and makes him share the secrecy of its richness: the manufacture of gold. Little by little, Angélique learns how to love her husband…
