Anders Lexell
Anders Johan Lexell (December 24th 1740 - December 11th 1784) was an astronomer and mathematician Swedish - Russian. In Russia, it is known under the name of Andrei Ivanovich Leksel (АндрейИвановичЛексель). Its name is sometimes spelled Anders Johann Lexell or Johann Anders Lexell .
He emigrated in Russia in 1768 and studied the movement of the Comet S. He calculated the orbit of the comet D/1770 L1 (Lexell), which was named in its honor thereafter although she was discovered by Charles Messier. The comet was that which passed nearest to the Ground in all the history of comets (although some Astéroïde S passed nearer) making of it the first Objet geocroisor listed, the exact distance is not known but it was estimated about 3 million kilometers. Lexell showed that the comet had had broad a Périhélie until it meets Jupiter in 1767. He predicts that, after a meeting even nearer 2 Révolution S later, in 1779, the comet would be expelled of the Solar system intern.
He was also the first to calculate the orbit of Uranus after his discovery and realized according to his Orbite which it was a Planet rather than a comet. Moreover it found that Uranus was disturbed and deduced the existence from another planet (possibly Neptune), although its position was not calculated until Urbain the Glassmaker.
The asteroid (2004) Lexell was named in its honor.
